The Ultimate At-Home Waxing Routine (PCOS-Friendly Hair Removal Guide)

If you have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, you already know hair growth can feel like one of the most frustrating symptoms to manage.

From facial hair to body hair, it can feel constant… and honestly, overwhelming.

That’s why I started looking for realistic, at-home solutions that actually work and waxing has been one of the biggest game changers for me.

In this post, I’m walking you through:

  • My at-home waxing routine

  • The products I use

  • Tips to make it less painful + more effective

My Go-To Waxing Products

1. Crybaby Wax Starter Kit (All-in-One Beginner Friendly)

This kit is perfect if you’re just getting started.

It includes everything you need:

  • Wax warmer

  • Hard wax beads

  • Applicators

What I love most is that it uses hard wax, which means:

  • No strips needed

  • Less irritation

  • Better for sensitive skin (especially face)

This is huge for PCOS because facial hair tends to be more sensitive and stubborn.

2. Ajoura Waxing Essentials (Affordable + Refill-Friendly)

If you already have a kit or want a more budget-friendly option, this is a great alternative. (My FAVORITE hard wax)

Why I like these:

  • Easy to melt and use

  • Good for larger areas (legs, arms)

  • Affordable for consistent use

  • Does not break (sometimes I’m scared to rip the wax off, and even if I wait 5-10 minutes, it does not break when I am ready to rip off!)

Why Waxing is SO Good for PCOS?

Let’s be real shaving every day is exhausting especially with someone who has PCOS (the hair growth is CONSTANT).

Waxing helps because:

  • Hair grows back slower + softer

  • Removes hair from the root

  • Can reduce the appearance of thickness over time

My At-Home Waxing Routine

(Throw on some of your favorite music to get you pumped to wax, I swear it helps)

Step 1: Prep Your Skin

  • Clean, dry skin (no oils or lotion)

  • Light exfoliation 24 hours before

  • I typically will take a tylenol or ibuqprofen 1 hour before waxing, I think it helps reduce the pain.

This helps the wax grip the hair better

Step 2: Heat the Wax

  • Use your wax warmer

  • Wait until it’s a honey-like consistency

Not too hot this is KEY

Step 3: Apply the Wax

  • Apply in the direction of hair growth

  • Let it cool slightly

  • Pull against the direction of hair

Hold your skin tight to reduce pain

Step 4: Aftercare (THIS IS IMPORTANT)

After waxing:

  • Avoid heat (showers, workouts) for 24 hours

  • Apply soothing products (aloe, fragrance-free lotion)

  • Avoid touching the area

  • Avoid tight clothing for 24 hours.

Real Results (Because PCOS Hair is REAL)

Not me being personally victimized by my own wax strip 😭
But this is your reminder that PCOS hair growth is completely normal and you’re not alone in this.

Tips to Make Waxing Less Painful

  • Wax after a warm shower (opens pores)

  • Don’t wax right before your period (more sensitive)

  • Use smaller sections at a time

  • Stay consistent (it gets easier over time)

PCOS-Specific Tips

If you struggle with facial hair:

  • Stick to hard wax only

  • Avoid over-waxing the same area

PCOS skin can be more sensitive, so gentle + consistent is better than aggressive removal.

Managing Polycystic Ovary Syndrome isn’t just about hormones it’s also about feeling confident in your skin.

Waxing has been one of the most practical ways I’ve managed unwanted hair without constantly stressing about it.
