Low Energy Days with PCOS & Postpartum: How I Support My Body Without Burning Out

Some days I wake up feeling okay…
and other days, I feel completely drained before the day even starts.

If you’re navigating postpartum while also dealing with PCOS, you probably understand this feeling all too well.

For me, it wasn’t just being “tired.”
It was a deep, heavy kind of exhaustion mentally and physically.

And for a long time, I thought the solution was to push through it.
Be more productive. Be more disciplined. Try harder.

But that only made things worse.

It wasn’t until I started listening to my body instead of fighting it that things slowly began to change.

Why Low Energy Happens (PCOS + Postpartum)

When you combine PCOS with postpartum recovery, your body is going through a LOT at once.

Hormones are shifting rapidly.
Sleep is inconsistent (or nonexistent).
Blood sugar can be harder to regulate.

All of this can leave you feeling:

  • Exhausted

  • Unmotivated

  • Overwhelmed

And the hardest part?
Feeling like you “should” be able to do more.

What I Do Instead of Forcing Productivity

On my low energy days, I’ve learned to stop trying to operate at 100%.

Instead, I focus on supporting my body in simple, realistic ways:

1. I Keep Meals Simple

No complicated recipes. No pressure to be perfect.
Just balanced, easy meals that keep me nourished.

2. I Choose Gentle Movement

Some days that looks like a short walk.
Other days, it’s stretching or nothing at all.

And that’s okay.

3. I Let Myself Rest (Without Guilt)

This one took time.

But rest isn’t laziness.
It’s part of healing.

My “Low Energy Day” Routine

Morning:
Slow start, coffee, something easy to eat

Midday:
Light movement if I can, simple meals, low expectations

Evening:
Shower, unwind, early rest when possible

It’s not a perfect routine… but it works for me.

What Made Things Worse

If you’re struggling, I want to share what didn’t help me:

  • Trying to push through exhaustion

  • Over-restricting food

  • Comparing myself to others online

  • Expecting my body to “bounce back” quickly

All of these just added more stress to an already overwhelmed system.

If you’re in a season where your energy is low, please know this:

You’re not lazy.
You’re not failing.
You’re healing.

And healing doesn’t always look productive.

Some days, it looks like rest.
And that’s more than enough.
